#RichKidsOfSaudiArabia

Dear Rich Kids,

explain to me if you get it ?

Is it my fault that I wasn’t born in a financially privileged family ? or that my dad doesn’t own a few buildings or kisses the Royal family’s ass every chance he gets ? Or that he doesn’t have expats under his sponsorship and basically rips them off ?

Is it my fault that I am a 20 year young girl living in Saudi Arabia and weren’t given an opportunity to attend an Ivy league University or went to a well recognised high school ? BUT I BET, YOU DID!

Then whenever I am given a chance to interact with a “RICH SAUDI KID”, why am I always left thinking so much better about my upbringing. Presumably, you were born with a silver spoon in your mouth, which means you’re expected to act civilised and not disrespect other people. I mean, isn’t it what your religion is all about? Be nice to your fellowmen, even if they don’t belong to the same class as you.

Let me share what happened to me today, despite the fact that this isn’t that big of an incident compared to other occasions where I was left feeling pathetic about being a non-saudi, a girl and POOR!

So my sister and I were walking towards Jeddah Mall on Ta7lia from Khayat Centre, It’s the Rodeo Drive of Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, elite class of Jeddah comes here often in their fancy cars. The distance is not really that much, if you’re walking from D&G store. So anyway, these two “rich saudi kids” in a Mercedes which I believe their rich Daddy bought them for probably failing an exam, started flashing their headlights on us, even though we were half way towards the mall gate, like that wasn’t enough to divert every person’s attention on us, they yelled “fuck you” at us. Hence, this letter/blog. Explain to me, rich kids, what kind of decency is that ?

If you’re a son/daughter of a very well off family and your Grandfather owns half of Jeddah/Riyadh/khobar whatever! then aren’t you suppose to act a certain way. Family values are what parents teach you, and they are like a mirror, the reflection they give is what children adopt. So by acting like a notorious bastard, are you telling us (expats) that this is what your parents have taught you ? ’cause it sure looks like it!

Don’t get this the wrong way, I don’t have a problem with you bring rich. I have a problem with you treating people with lower status than yours like plain shit. Trust me, I love watching y’all take your latest addition Chanel/ LV bag or your custom design accessories or a new car out to show-off. Who would mind watching a free runway show ? Only the runway is usually the mall, restaurants or those illegal parties with booze that your Hayaa (islamic police. Yes, it exists)seems to ignore, because y’all rich people will probably have their asses locked up if they try to complain. And the brave ones who actually do file a complain or try to “annoy” you with their annoying faces you probably get them executed or offer a glass of red vine (bribe) to them ?

I don’t live on the money that you have provided me, however, you on the other hand do (sponsor fee that we pay every year and which drastically increases if the sponsor has to go on a vacation or if someone from his family wants to buy something “FANCY”). Mostly in other countries it’s Tax, but in Saudi Arabia it’s the money you pay your sponsor every year. The amount is decided by the sponsor. He can ask for how much ever he wants. You cannot complain to the authorise, because they will probably tell you to go back to your country. Now you may say, then why don’t we go back our country? Believe you me, no one wants to stay in this DISCRIMINATIVE-JUDGMENTAL-DESPOTIC-OPPRESSIVE country anyway. It’s our misfortune or compulsion. Besides, if we leave then who’s going to work and actually build this piece of shit country of yours. You CANNOT work as a minority, because GOD FORBIDS it will bring shame to your ego and what will your friends say when they hear that you have been working as an intern or a driver or a SWEEPER!

I’d love to see that happen tho’.

In drawing things to a close, I’d like to request to the rich kids of SAUDI ARABIA to not be impolite/rude to people who are not rich. We may not have as much as you do, but what we do have is RESPECT. We may not have expensive education like you do, but we do have good enough education to know what is right and what isn’t.

TRUST ME, Which is far more than the MONEY that you are so proud of.

Lastly, GET YOUR SHIT TOGETHER, ASSHOLES!

Thank you so much for reading it.

After living here for more than a decade, I can’t believe I still let these things get to me. It’s just too much sometimes. Thank you!!

The true richness is in the inside, not the outside!

I see someone had a rude awakening. Haha

I’ve lived my entire life in Saudi for almost 23 years now and only seen things go from bad to worse.
Majority of the ‘rich kids’ are from upstart families which makes it hard for them to digest the fact of becoming ”Wealthy” in a short period of time. Wealth doesn’t make you immune to the law let alone religion. Sorry to say, Haya is not the cure for these savages rather a catalyst for their monstrosity.

You should come visit Riyadh, its worse! Haha
